$363.48 estimated annually on the weekly plan
At $6.99 per weekly renewal, continuous renewal has an estimated annual cost of $363.48: about 2.8 times the $129.99 yearly offer. The euro weekly plan has an estimated annual cost of €415.48, compared with the €149.99 yearly offer.
Illustrative continuous-renewal estimates at unchanged prices; calendar-year billing dates can alter actual totals. A high price alone is not proof of deception.

The reach: No. 10 in Apple’s US Top Free Mac Apps
The reporter’s top-20 observation is independently corroborated by Apple’s own ordered RSS chart. App ID 6741155738 occupies position 10 in the overall United States Top Free Mac Apps feed updated 2026-11-02 15:22:34 UTC. The separate Education feed places it first. This is a dated chart position, not a worldwide rank, total-download estimate or claim that all users were misled.
High chart visibility makes publisher recognition consequential. Users can encounter this independently billed product alongside familiar mainstream software. The table reproduces the first twenty ordered entries from that exact Apple snapshot; its place in the chart is not an Apple endorsement of the product’s branding or business practices.

A verified icon change: AI letters in March, a ChatGPT-like knot by April
A deeper archive search recovered nine dated US listing records from March to November 2026. The 19 March record points to a different Apple icon asset: a simpler black crossed-loop outline with AI lettering in the center. The 19 April record points to the thick interwoven knot used today. The same app ID 6741155738 and seller connect both pages. The visible icon switch is bounded by those two observations; its exact change date is not established.
The eight sampled records from April onward reference various CDN paths, but the recovered 512-pixel artworks are identical to one another and to the current icon. Different Apple CDN paths are therefore not counted as different icon designs. This investigation recovered two distinct designs, not a complete lifetime icon history.
The 19 March archived page already uses ChatGPT/OpenAI/GPT-5 wording in its subtitle while showing the simpler AI icon. This separates two developments: the earlier DeepSeek-to-GPT marketing change documented in 2025 release notes, and the later 2026 icon change toward a more ChatGPT-like knot. No 2025 launch screenshot or DeepSeek whale icon was recovered.
The original image URLs are preserved inside the archived Apple HTML. The artwork shown below was retrieved from those referenced Apple CDN paths on 2 November 2026. Direct archived-image retrieval was unavailable or rate-limited, so these are recovered original assets referenced by dated archived pages, not screenshots falsely presented as captured in 2025. The earlier and later first promotional images were recovered through the same process.
This strengthens the documented chronology of changing brand presentation. The reporter suspects that these changes were used to evade App Review scrutiny. Neither the archived pages nor the icon comparison establishes Apple’s internal review decisions or deliberate review evasion.

| Archived observation | Recovered icon | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| 19 March 2026 | AI letters inside a simple crossed-loop outline | Earlier design tied to app ID 6741155738 |
| 19 April 2026 | Fourfold black interwoven knot, no AI letters | Later/current design present by this observation |
| May-November 2026 sampled records | Same recovered knot artwork | CDN path changes did not establish further design changes |
| Original February 2025 release | No verified original icon recovered | No DeepSeek-whale or exact launch-design claim |
From DeepSeek R1 to GPT: the same app ID, a changing sales pitch
The screenshots below make the dated change visible on Apple’s own history: version 1.1, dated 6 March 2025, promotes DeepSeek R1; version 1.4, dated 10 October 2025, promotes OpenAI GPT-5. The current first advertisement promotes GPT-6.1 and GPT-5.5. The same Apple app ID 6741155738 connects those records. Versions 1.2 and 1.3 also used DeepSeek R1 wording; later releases expanded the model-brand references.
The bundle ID remains com.am.deepseek, connecting the current product to an earlier DeepSeek-oriented technical identifier. The same numeric Apple app ID links the release notes over time. This supports a change in promoted model identity, not proof that the binary originally had a particular title or icon.
The reporter suspects that the developer obtained App Review approval with DeepSeek-oriented positioning and subsequently changed the presentation to exploit ChatGPT recognition. The dated records substantiate a change in marketed model identity after first release. They do not establish Apple’s internal review sequence, an original 2025 icon, a title change or deliberate review evasion. The screenshots are current captures of historical release entries, not reconstructed launch screens.

| Date / version | Published positioning | Evidence type |
|---|---|---|
| 13 February 2025 · first release | Apple lookup release date; store history uses 14 February | Release record; not a recorded original icon |

| 10 October 2025 · 1.4 | OpenAI GPT-5 | Original PDF and current structured version entry |
| 16 / 29 October 2025 · 1.5-1.6 | OpenAI GPT-5 | Current release-history text |
| 2026 · later versions | Multiple provider/model brands, then advanced models | Current release notes |
| 2 November 2026 · current promotion | GPT-6.1 and GPT-5.5 | Original current promotional image |
The visual warning: familiar knot, different publisher
The investigated icon takes the broad visual language of ChatGPT’s interwoven knot: heavy dark ribbons, curved overlapping loops, white internal gaps and a light rounded tile. Its fourfold/star-centered construction is visibly different from the official six-part/hexagonal blossom, but the result closely evokes the same recognizable identity at thumbnail size. App Scam DB assesses it as a copycat-style design with altered details.
That assessment is supported by more than artwork alone. A one-star review dated 29 October explicitly alleges that the logo made the app appear to be ChatGPT. Other reviews discuss ChatGPT subscriptions, accounts or capabilities while reviewing this separate seller’s product. These are customer reports of confusion; they do not independently prove what the developer intended.
The current description opens with a clear disclaimer that the product is independent and not affiliated with the named providers. The first advertisement also contains a small disclaimer inside the pictured app. Those disclosures matter and are reproduced here. Their existence does not demonstrate that every buyer understood the distinction before paying, nor settle a trademark-infringement question.
The official reference shown is OpenAI’s genuine iPhone/iPad app icon, obtained from Apple. It is used to compare brand artwork across platforms, not to imply that the official Mac download is the same App Store listing.

| Developer ID | 1765528474 | 1684349733 |

What buyers say happened after paying
The two complaints in the supplied analysis were independently found in Apple’s current review feed. SEinOC criticizes the ChatGPT-like logo and reseller identity. Snakiteze reports paying $199, receiving an unhelpful response and then encountering another subscription offer online. The second account illustrates product/account confusion; it does not establish that the same subscription was charged twice.
Additional records strengthen the context. A September reviewer asks what happened to their ChatGPT access while reviewing this app. A June reviewer reports paying $199 for a lifetime offer and being unable to generate PDFs; the publisher replies that this capability is not currently provided. That reply corroborates the missing feature in that exchange, not the underlying payment transaction.
In Brazil, another reviewer asks whether the app is official after checking an OpenAI account for a weekly charge. The publisher replies that it is not official ChatGPT and uses third-party APIs. This supports the distinction between the two products and shows that confusion reached the publisher. The Portuguese originals remain in the saved source record; this report describes their meaning in English.
The feed also contains positive and ordinary feature reviews. The examples below are selected because they address identity, billing or a specific advertised expectation; they are not a count of all affected people. No purchase receipts, refunds or user accounts were accessed.

| Public review / date | What is reported | Corroboration and boundaries |
|---|---|---|
| SEinOC · 29 October 2026 | ChatGPT-like logo and reseller identity caused concern about impersonation. | Original PDF, current feed and native review card; allegation of intent is the reviewer’s |
| Snakiteze · 10 October 2026 | Reports $199 paid, poor response and a second online subscription offer. | Original PDF, current feed and native card; transaction unverified |
| Mishele S. · 3 September 2026 | Existing ChatGPT user asks why this different app is their search option. | Current feed and native card; public account confusion |
| Shucking Good · 11 June 2026 UTC | Reports lifetime payment and missing PDF generation. | Current feed; publisher confirms feature not currently offered |
| Marcelheza · Brazil listing | Asks whether it is official and where the weekly subscription appears. | Publisher explicitly clarifies independent third-party API product |
Lifetime, until premium access can be discontinued
The US store offers a $199.99 lifetime purchase beside weekly, monthly and yearly plans. Section 16 of the linked terms provides a material qualification: premium access can be discontinued if Apple removes the application from the store. A customer buying lifetime access should not have to infer that condition from a separate legal document.
The same terms say that even unlimited-labelled use is subject to limits, that limits can change because of pricing, demand or operations, and that the same limits apply across all paid plans. Models may change or be removed. Another clause permits access to be suspended or terminated without notice. These conditions limit what a lifetime buyer can reasonably expect to remain available.
The report does not establish that this product currently advertises a specific unlimited entitlement on its purchase screen. It records the qualification in its terms and the verified lifetime label in its listing. No in-app paywall was accessed. The table below describes the public offers, not a test of entitlement delivery.
The description says a few free queries are available through Continue With Free Plan and describes a three-day monthly trial. It also uses confusing wording about active subscriptions not being cancellable before explaining auto-renewal controls. The listed cancel/renewal conditions and trial availability should be clear before purchase; this investigation did not test Apple billing.

| Paid-access issue | Verified public wording or condition | Practical consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Lifetime $199.99 / €229.99 | Premium may stop upon Apple removal | The advertised duration is qualified by a platform-removal condition |
| Weekly $6.99 / €7.99 | Recurring weekly purchase | Estimated annual $363.48 / €415.48 |
| Yearly $129.99 / €149.99 | Separate annual offer | Weekly continuous renewal costs about 2.8 times the yearly price |
| Fair use | Same limits across paid plans; changeable quotas | Lifetime does not mean fixed permanent model access or fixed quotas |
No data collected does not mean no data leaves the Mac
The App Store label says Data Not Collected. The linked privacy policy describes a different question: how requests travel. It says prompts and attachments are sent through a secured cloud function and forwarded to a selected provider from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek or xAI. Several tools transmit text or images; it says file text is extracted locally for summaries and that some local ML features do not communicate with servers.
The policy says requests and outputs are not retained on the operator’s servers after processing, describes device-local session results and rejects analytics or behavioural tracking. Those are published promises, not verified network or retention findings. The operator of the relay, its endpoint and actual runtime behavior were not established.
Apple’s definition of collection excludes some data transmitted and discarded solely to service a request in real time. The store label is therefore not automatically false merely because the app uses AI APIs. The meaningful consumer point is that a no-collection label is not a promise of on-device-only AI. Whether provider retention, diagnostics or other processing requires further disclosure depends on the real implementation.
The current description calls Detect AI a tool for identifying AI-generated text or context, while the policy describes it as local object detection and the sixth screenshot shows image-detail analysis. This is a documented feature-description inconsistency. No accuracy test of this feature or the separate gender-inference claim was performed.
Asif Munir: what the public identifiers establish
Apple developer ID 1765528474 currently publishes one verified US app, 6741155738. The listed seller is Asif Munir. The same Gmail support address appears in the listing, privacy policy, terms and publisher review replies. The two Google Docs IDs consistently connect the legal pages to this app.
The investigation searched the exact mailbox and its distinctive local-part variants, app ID, developer ID, bundle ID and both document identifiers. It also checked the existing local App Scam DB research corpus for those exact identifiers. No corroborated second Apple developer account, shared app-support domain or registered company record was established.
Namesake professional profiles, freelancers and businesses found in search results are not linked to this seller by a matching identifier. They are excluded from ownership and country attribution. A third-party chart position in Pakistan describes a market ranking, not the developer’s residence. Neither email spelling nor a personal name supplies a business country.
Germany and Ireland both display a non-trader statement without a business location. The linked legal documents provide an email but no verified company or country. Country remains Unknown. No prior account ban, enforcement reason, family-account replacement or additional fraud case was established.

| Identifier or record | Verified observation | What remains unresolved |
|---|---|---|
| Developer ID 1765528474 | Asif Munir; one current US software record | No corroborated second account |
| App 6741155738 / com.am.deepseek | Same product identity across lookup/history | Original public title/icon not verified |
| Support mailbox | Same Gmail address across listing, policies and replies | No independently linked company or address |
| DE / IE trader panels | Non-trader; no country supplied | Country Unknown |
| External professional profiles | Name-only results | Excluded without matching app/contact identifier |
The evidence supports scrutiny of branding and paid-access clarity
The strongest documented combination is a close ChatGPT-style icon, explicit GPT positioning, actual customer reports of mistaken identity, and an expensive separate billing relationship. App Scam DB assesses that public presentation as misleading brand borrowing. The opening affiliation disclaimer is relevant evidence and does not erase the reported confusion.
Apple’s accurate-metadata, copycat and intellectual-property rules are relevant: 2.3, 4.1 and 5.2.1. Subscription rule 3.1.2 is relevant to clear duration, renewal and access terms; privacy rule 5.1.1 is relevant to explaining external AI processing and real retention practices. The facts support a request for review rather than an assertion that Apple has already found infringement or fraud.
A high chart position does not demonstrate how many people paid, how many were confused or how the rank was obtained. This report does not allege ranking manipulation, fake reviews or a proven payment scam without evidence. It identifies the documented consumer problem and preserves the records needed to assess it.

The records behind this report.
The full supplied 13-page App Store analysis and separate 3-page icon-comparison review are appended after this investigation. All supplied PDF pages are retained, including original store captures, six promotions, review complaints and version history. The supplied comparison is an earlier assessment; this investigation adds the independently retrieved official icon. Duplicate page PNGs and extracted image files were used to inspect the evidence, not misrepresented as independent captures. The ZIP’s supplied hash list matches 32 of 34 listed files; the original PDF and README differ from those listed hashes. This report records newly calculated hashes of the actual received files. No app installation, purchase, sign-in, private-data access, model/API test, binary analysis, developer contact or complaint submission was performed. The follow-up adds two original icon designs and earlier promotions recovered from retained Apple CDN URLs referenced by dated 2026 archived HTML. These are labelled with their provenance, not presented as 2025 launch screenshots.

Direct archived image requests returned 429/404; captions identify CDN recovery rather than claim archived image binaries.
